Earlier this year, we were having a research about location and mobile app. Lately, we have started it again, and this time focus on a wifi , close range solution.

We manage to flash OpenWRT into our old Linksys WRT54G router, then we start experimenting with it about captive portal.

Captive portal is the page that you would see sometimes when you are connecting to a public wifi spot. Originally, it was designed to block user access of internet until she logs in.

Now, we want to turn it into part of the flow that user may experience when using an app with venue-base interactivity. Rather than requesting for login, it checks and wakes appropriate app according to the wifi spot you are in.
